Red Chair

A mixture of new and exotic materials.

For this San Francisco residence, we removed 30 yards of sandy soil and built 3 levels of outdoor living areas. One level features a deck, walkway, and steps made of sustainably harvested ipe hardwood, also known as ironwood - a rainforest hardwood that has a fire rating that is close to that of concrete. A second level features a sand set flagstone patio with ground cover in the joints and tumbled Mexican pebbles along the seams. In the third level, we created a synthetic turf lawn, which requires zero maintenance.
